Real Star Wars - Soviet side. These are my alternate history 80s ships based on the spacecraft from Star Wars. When the United States started the Strategic Defense Initiative in 1983 it was quickly nicknamed the Star Wars program due to its reliance on lasers, space bombs, and other exotic weapons. But what if Ronald Reagan actually had been thinking of the movies when he signed off on the project? What would those ships look like in his mind? That's what I've tried to imagine.
The Soviet side consists of a laser wielding space station (TIE Fighter), an ICBM interception station (TIE Bomber), and a small laser satellite that would create a constellation of interceptors (TIE Interceptor.) The Soviets were, at the time, working on lasers as well, and had analogues to the Brilliant Pebbles. The last picture here is a demilitarized version of TIE Bomber model, the Priyut shelter craft, something a little more optimistic. All made with Blender.
I'll be posting the Rebels/NATO next week. I had a fun time doing this so I want to do something programmatic again, but this time peaceful exploration. My plan is to make a future exploration ship for each of the planets based on their astrological symbols.
