Growth Space Station (GSS)

Modular space station, 70s style --- the concept of a modular station has been around for a while, you'll see it a lot in older NASA concept art. This model is based on a 1971 design by McDonnell Douglas called the Growth Space Station (GSS). The study describes how the space station will be built in phases, starting with the ISS (Initial Space Station, a funny synchronicity of acronyms) with more modules added on to create the GSS configuration. At this point it could house a crew of 12.
