Pegasus Satellite

A Pegasus satellite deploys its wings. NASA launched three Pegasus satellites to study micrometeoroids in Earth orbit in support of the Apollo program. The large wings remained attached to the second stage of a Saturn I rocket and were covered in sensors to detect impacts and determine the density of the micrometeroid field in Earth orbit, a critical piece of information for manned Apollo missions.
