AAP Goodyear Orbital Balloon

Among the industry-proposed concepts for the Apollo Application Program was a massive inflatable communication satellite designed by Goodyear. It would have acted as a passive reflector for communication signals. During launch, the satellite would be packed into a metal sphere. Once in space, the Apollo CSM crew would have extracted the sphere from the rocket and observed its inflation.
