ATS-6

ATS-6 was launched in 1974. This was the first experimental direct satellite transmission spacecraft, the percussor to services like DirecTV. ATS-6 primarily broadcasted educational programs around the world, while also working out the issues of 3-axis stabilization in geostationary orbit. It also carried out a variety of experiments. Although it only flew for five years, ATS-6 accomplished a lot.
